Uranus is the first planet that indicates a fundamental difference between Western and Vedic Astrology. Vedic astrologists keep using only the celestial bodies that lie within Sun-Saturn distance. Western astrology, however, adapted for the new knowledge.
Even though it is possible to see Uranus with the naked eye, it hadn’t been recognised as a planet until the second half of the 18th century. That period was associated with the American, French and Industrial revolutions. Points of no return in human history. They describe the nature and the scale of Uranus: liberty, equality and progress for everyone. The ancient order of life dictated by the nature of Jupiter and Saturn was interrupted by something, until then, unimaginable.
Uranus is the ruler of the Aquarius sign, and it signifies the 11th house in a natal chart. The most intriguing part is that we have recently moved into the Age of Aquarius. And it is going to last for the next two thousand years. From the Age of Pisces associated with Neptune and Jupiter and their attributes like religions, enigmatic practices, and untouched nature. We are moving into a new world. The world of high speed, equality, technologies, information is promised by the nature of Aquarius. We already observe those changes around us.
Like any other planet, Uranus has its ‘dark side’. It all depends on the ability of a person or society to deal with its energy. It can reward with a sharp and bright mind or give addiction to gaming or clubbing under drugs. It can bless with a talent to forecast the future or curse with bipolar disorder or schizophrenia.
Where is the fine line that can explain it? As usual, it is about the maturity of an individual soul. Not everyone even has excess to the energies of the planets after Mars. When the soul finally moves into the next level and gets access to them, some time is needed to learn them and in order to reach their highest tones. It can take centuries.
To illustrate some aspects of Uranus nature, I would like to show a few astrological charts. The first one belongs to a Nobel Prize winner – Neils Bohr, who made foundational contributions to understanding atomic structure and quantum theory. In this case, we can see that Uranus makes conjunction with Sun, Mercury and Moon in the 9th house (house of learned people). Mercury and Moon are responsible for our memory functions. Uranus could easily disturb the intellectual ability of the chart owner, but a few factors made it exceptional. We all know that in order to become a genius a person should be talented by nature and hard-working by habit. In this chart Saturn, a planet of system and work, makes a squared aspect to them. That indicates exceptional efforts the chart owner spent to structures and discipline his super fast and exceptional brain. Not everyone is capable to master such energies.

The second chart belongs to a Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie where Uranus in the 4th house makes a squared aspect with Venus at the beginning of the horoscope. It gave her exceptional beauty and brought havoc into her family life.

The last chart isn’t about a person. It is the sky picture at the moment when the parliament of a former Soviet Ukrainian Republic voted and announced The Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine.

In this chart, Uranus makes a conjunction with the black moon and Neptune extremely close to the beginning of the horoscope with Moon and Saturn in the 1st house in the Aquarius sign. If you compare Ukraine to its nearest, in all respects, neighbouring countries: Russia and Belarus, you will notice a significant difference in the way political life is going there. While the other two after a short period of democracy returned to a Soviet style dictatorship. Ukraine, as a state, managed to provide a change of leadership through the voting process. And when some political figures tried to reverse that process, two revolutions burst those efforts out.
That chart also demonstrates how the maturity of society effects the level of manifestation of planetary energies. The current president of Ukraine is a comedian whose previous political experience included only a role in a TV show where he played a president. Uranus, by the way, also represents the ability to have a sharp sense of humour and the TV industry altogether patronised by Neptune. Instead of having a famous scientist as a president (also possible within this chart) the Ukrainian voters happily embraced a famous comedian TV star. Good news for the comedian: he responded to the country collective unconsciousness and has very good chances to be reelected for a second term. Sad news for the Ukrainians: the majority of the population has been stuck in a pubescent period of civil development at the cost of the nation as a whole.
Uranus energy is an incredible force that is capable to move every country and every person to the future. We can predict the future, discover the secrets of the Universe, achieve diversity and equality in life. The only question stands: Are we ready?
